You reap what you sow

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked,
for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬
“If you wait until the wind and the weather are just right, you will never plant anything and never harvest anything. God made everything, and you can no more understand what he does than you understand how new life begins in the womb of a pregnant woman. Do your planting in the morning and in the evening, too. You never know whether it will all grow well or whether one planting will do better than the other.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭GNTD‬‬

God compares His word to that of a seed that is implanted in a human heart. He instructs us to meditate on the Word and allow it to renew us in the spirit of our minds. Sometimes, as we sit to be with God, pour out our heart to Him in prayer, or read His word and meditate on a certain passage, it doesn’t appear much is happening in that moment. What we can’t see is that God is growing His presence within us. He created us, and is in the process of forming us to the image of Jesus. Making us holy as He is.

This scripture from Ecclesiastes is such an encouragement to keep sowing to the Spirit. You don’t know whether it will all grow well or if one seed sown could do better then another. This points to a diligence we are called to have in seeking the Lord. There is a promised reward for those who seek Him with all diligence. We are promised that we will reap a harvest of blessing if we do not give up.

Now we can take this deeper— as we seek His kingdom first and His righteousness, all else will be added. Including walking out the purpose God has on your life. Only you know what God has asked of you to steward. Whatever He has set in your heart to live out for His glory— for all of us, He has called to sow seeds of the good news.

If you wait until the moment is just right, you will never plant anything and never harvest anything either. We are called according to His purpose, so even if you mess up, He can turn it for good. The point is, being obedient to sow knowing that whether a huge fruit bearing tree is produced, or a small sprout that gets dried up in the sun, God is ultimately sovereign. All power belongs to Him. Our role is to follow in the steps of Jesus Christ, who humbled Himself and became obedient unto death. Living out the knowledge that it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, you are Lord of my life. I humble myself before You. Let Your perfect will be done in and through me. Help me to steward all you’ve entrusted to me well and let it be for Your glory. In Jesus name, amen.
