God is sovereign, meaning He is ultimately in control. Having created all things, and all things being sustained through Him— He has all power and all authority to do as He pleases. There is such rest in this, no matter what, God is all-powerful. King of all. Lord of all.
For a long time I would pray for the will of God. For a word straight from heaven or for God to speak to me clearly about what He wanted me to do next. At times I found myself frustrated that God wouldn’t tell me plainly “do this” or “do that”. As I’ve matured and grown in the Lord I’ve come to a new way of seeing things.
God has given us the 10 commandments as well as all that was taught through the ministry of Jesus. To read, and reread through the gospels and to meditate on the word will result in our mind’s continual renewal. His word’s are written on our hearts and we are kept on the narrow way that leads to life. Jesus is the Word made flesh. He is our daily bread, nourishing our spirits, giving us what we need to sustain us in our day to day life. Therefore, to follow Him is to make the word of God our spiritual food.
God is the ultimate authority in the universe, the Beginning and the End, Alpha and Omega. Knowing this and being accepted by Him through faith in His Son Jesus, we have been seated in heavenly places in Christ. We are made righteous by grace through faith, it is never through something we do or don’t do. Jesus paid the price for our reconciliation to the Father on the cross— this is foundational to know.
I know there are times when God will tell us plainly “go this way” or “do this” as well as times He would will us to wait. I believe there are also many times where God wants us to do and go. To take steps without needing Him to give us direct orders, especially as we grow in maturity in our faith. In living in close relationship to Jesus, obeying Him and actively seeking Him daily, we know Him, He knows us. In this, there is so much freedom.
As any loving father would, He delights in seeing His sons and daughters grow up. He delights in seeing what they create, what they like to do and pursue. How they express themselves each uniquely and individually. As His children He gives us the desire to glorify Him in all that we do. Consequently, what we do from that heart space will either become a blessing or a lesson used by Him to refine us. Either way…
"We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
Romans 8:28
He keeps us safe, protecting us from harm while also giving us enough freedom to learn lessons, go through trials and make mistakes. Christ-like character develops and we naturally become ever more molded into His image— becoming more like Jesus. What a loving Father He is. How I am sure He delights in His children when they come to understand this. That His commands are not to be burdensome but to keep us safe and close to His heart. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours. The same God who fashioned the earth and heavens through His wisdom and understanding can hold our precious little lives.
"You enlarge the path beneath me and make my steps secure,
So that my feet will not slip."
Psalm 18:36
